ABI Remains Strong

The Architectural Billings Index had its fifth straight month of increases — although the score dropped from 52.6, down from 53.1 the previous month.

The one possible dark note, according to AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker, was “that the value of design contracts dipped into negative territory in June for the first time in more than two years.”

Compiled by the American Institute of Architects, the ABI is a leading economic indicator for construction: It takes approximately nine months to a year between architecture billings and construction spending. (Any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings.)
