The construction industry’s atmosphere of optimism about increasing numbers of jobs was borne out by employment gains in December of last year, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

For the year, construction firms increased their payrolls in 40 states and the Dictrict of Columbia.

“The underlying trend is very positive, with construction employment expanding at more than double the rate for total nonfarm payroll jobs,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist.
