AIA Official Urges 179D Extension

With the expiration of Section 179D approaching at the end of 2013, Andrew Goldberg, the managing director of government relations and outreach for the American Institute of Architects, argues in the latest edition of the AIA’s journal that Congress should extend the provision.

Goldberg notes that the provision sets “fairly high energy-saving standards so that owners have to commit to serious reductions” and that its use of a performance path to reach them encourages architects “to use innovative design solutions.”

179D “has helped firms of all sizes,” he writes.
