Architectural Billings Index Shows Fifth Straight Increase

February 2, 2013

Architectural billings are surging strongly, according to the Architectural Billings Index — making the strongest gains since November 2007.

Compiled by the American Institute of Architects, the ABI is a leading economic indicator for construction: It takes approximately nine months to a year between architecture billings and construction spending.

“We have been pointing in this direction for the last several months, but this is the strongest indication that there will be an upturn in construction activity in the coming months,” said AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker.
