Brady Replaces Ryan as House Ways and Means Chairman

Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX) will succeed incoming House Speaker Paul Ryan as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Brady represents the 8th district in East Texas. He is the second most senior member of the powerful Ways and Mean Committee, which has jurisdiction over taxes, tariff, Social Security, Medicare and unemployment benefits, among other matters.

Brady told USA Today he would use the new position to advance “a pro-growth agenda to get this country back on track” that includes reform of taxes, Social Security, welfare and Medicare.

Last year, he introduced an act that would make the Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit a permanent part of the tax code.
