EBI Continues Slide, but Stays Positive

The Engineering Business Index (EBI) compiled by the American Council of Engineering Companies has now fallen for five straight quarters, registering a composite score of 62.4 — which means that it remains firmly in positive territory.

The EBI charts the health of the engineering industry through member responses to a series of questions about company performance and market trends, consolidated into a single number. Any number over 50 indicates expansion.

The survey found that the CEOs found the most growth potential in the sector “Smart Infrastructure/Smart Cities” — the use of digital technologies to enhance the quality and performance of infrastructure/urban services — followed by “Renewable Energy Production, Transmission, and Storage” and “Climate Change Resiliency.”

Engineers working on construction projects should look for opportunities to incorporate energy-efficient designs in their projects — and to earn the Section 179D deduction (up to $1.80 per square foot). As the country’s leading specialist in this deduction, Concord has the experience, knowledge and capacity to handle any project, at every step of the way.
