In November, the construction industry employed 6,490,000, the most since January 2009, and increased 4.2 percent over a year ago. The new jobs drop the industry’s unemployment rate to 6.2 percent. “Construction firms appear to be having an easier time finding workers to hire after months of struggling with worker shortages,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist.
